At The Voice of Our Seniors, we believe that building a better future means honoring the voices of the past. That’s why our Circles of Care program connects youth and elders through meaningful conversations, shared activities, and cultural exchange.

What happens when young people and seniors come together with open hearts and minds? Transformation.

Wisdom That Textbooks Can’t Teach

From stories of resilience during immigration journeys to firsthand memories of civil rights movements, elders carry rich lived experiences that can’t be Googled. Our youth participants often share how surprised they are by the depth of insight they gain from even a single session:

“I never thought I’d learn so much from someone 60 years older than me. Through storytelling, laughter, and sometimes tears, we see empathy blossom between generations who might otherwise never meet.

This emotional intelligence—built through intergenerational relationships—is one of the most important life skills a young person can carry into adulthood.

Youth Learn. Elders Heal.

The exchange isn’t one-sided. While youth gain wisdom, elders in our program say they feel reenergized and valued. Loneliness fades when a teenager leans in to listen. Grief becomes lighter when someone asks, “What was your favorite song growing up?”

This mutual benefit is the heart of the Circles of Care model. It’s not mentorship—it’s partnership.

Cultural Exchange That Preserves Identity

Many of our elders are from Black and racialized communities whose stories often go unheard in mainstream settings. In Circles of Care, youth learn not just from elders—but about their culture, language, and the systemic challenges they’ve overcome.

For second- and third-generation youth, this space can be life-changing.
